Numerical multilinear algebra and its applications ∗

چکیده
Numerical multilinear algebra, in which instead of matrices and vectors the higher-order tensors are considered in numerical viewpoint, is a new branch of computational mathematics. Although it is an extension of numerical linear algebra, it has many essential differences from numerical linear algebra and more difficulties than it. In this paper, we present a survey on the state of the art knowledge on this topic, which is incomplete, and indicate some new trends for further research. Our survey also contains a detailed bibliography as its important part. We hope that this new area will be receiving more attention of more scholars.

Computation of Generalized Matrix Functions
We develop numerical algorithms for the efficient evaluation of quantities associated with generalized matrix functions [J. B. Hawkins and A. Ben-Israel, Linear and Multilinear Algebra, 1(2), 1973, pp. 163–171]. Our algorithms are based on Gaussian quadrature and Golub–Kahan bidiagonalization. Block variants are also investigated. Numerical experiments are performed to illustrate the effectiven...
متن کاملBlock Tensor Unfoldings
Within the field of numerical multilinear algebra, block tensors are increasingly important. Accordingly, it is appropriate to develop an infrastructure that supports reasoning about block tensor computation. In this paper we establish concise notation that is suitable for the analysis and development of block tensor algorithms, prove several useful block tensor identities, and make precise the...
متن کاملMultilinear forms which are products of linear forms
The conditions under which, multilinear forms (the symmetric case and the non symmetric case),can be written as a product of linear forms, are considered. Also we generalize a result due to S.Kurepa for 2n-functionals in a group G.
متن کاملTensor Decompositions and Applications
This survey provides an overview of higher-order tensor decompositions, their applications, and available software. A tensor is a multidimensional or N-way array. Decompositions of higher-order tensors (i.e., N-way arrays with N ≥ 3) have applications in psychometrics, chemometrics, signal processing, numerical linear algebra, computer vision, numerical analysis, data mining, neuroscience, grap...

We define two (n + 1) graded Lie brackets on spaces of multilinear mappings. The first one is able to recognize n-graded as-sociative algebras and their modules and gives immediately the correct differential for Hochschild cohomology. The second one recognizes n-graded Lie algebra structures and their modules and gives rise to the notion of Chevalley cohomology.
